June was a very busy month.
It was PRIDE month. I went to the New Hope and Philadelphia PRIDE parades. The festivities were extremely enjoyable. However, I was asked by a few people why I went. What was my connection? Do I have gay friends? Why do I care?
First of all, I care because I am human.
All living beings deserve respect. And all humans deserve to have the same rights. All living creatures should be able to love whomever they choose without feeling ashamed or being harassed. I went because I support my fellow humans. END OF STORY.
It truly saddens me LGBTQ+ rights are even an issue. They are humans and should be treated as such, but it also does not surprised me. The majority is always afraid of the minority. History has taught us that and it is why now, more than ever in recent history, racism is such a big issue. People of color are slowly becoming the majority in this country and whites who are afraid are trying to do everything they can in order to stop this from occurring. But it is unstoppable. And in my personal opinion, I believe the world is a much better place when it is more colorful.
In conclusion, PRIDE was awesome.
And then I got fired.
It was only a bank job. Not necessarily where I wanted to be for the rest of my career. And I will fully own that I made a mistake, which ultimately resulted in my firing. However, I do feel there were many factors involved which could have been handled a bit better, but regardless getting fired sucks. On the flip side, I already have a new job and I am looking forward to beginning this new adventure.
The month of June 2019 has been filled with many ups and downs. It has reminded me that no matter what happens in life, if you remain positive, you will get through it. It has shown me what is worth fighting for and what is worth simply letting go.
Getting fired is never ideal, but sometimes life knocks you down in order for your to get back up and move on to better things. And that is exactly what I am doing.
