With the Presidential debate season in full swing, many people have begun to argue over politics and who they want to see in the White House. I understand it is important for the candidates to point out each other’s differences and flaws. However, the conversations about the candidates on social media often become nasty and hateful. This is a very important process in America and voting should be done, but instead of spreading hateful social media posts, maybe we should focus on doing good.
I very much enjoy volunteering. I volunteer at Last Chance Ranch animal rescue in Quakertown, PA. It is a great organization, which saves the lives of a variety of animals. Not only does volunteering help an organization or community, but it also give you sense of accomplishment. You went out of you way and completed tasks to help others.
It is important to remember, despite our differences we are all human beings. We must all find a (hopefully, peaceful) way to live together on this planet. We will not always agree and there will be many arguments. But we should still help each other and give one another the respect we all deserve as humans.
I would love for everyone to be able to find a cause or organization they are passionate about and volunteer their free time to creating a better community for us all to enjoy. I realize we all live busy lives, but it could be as simple a picking up trash while you walk your dog. Or as easy as helping someone struggling to hold their shopping bags get everything into their car. Doing good does not have to be complicated or a long term commitment. It should be simple and come naturally.
So please try to remember the next time you feel frustrated or upset with another person, that sometimes it is better to let things go. Send a smile instead of a middle finger. Being kind and doing good are easy things that can make this world a much better place to live in.
